PPS COMMUNITY TWITTER TOWN HALL
November 6, 2013
On Wednesday, November 6, 2013, Parents for Public Schools of Starkville (PPS) hosted and facilitated an hour-long live Twitter Town Hall question-and-answer session on consolidation co-hosted by the Greater Starkville Development Partnership (GSDP). The purpose of the event was to allow the public to ask questions in an open forum regarding plans for structuring the Starkville Consolidated School District. PPS assembled a panel of community leaders and Commission members to respond to questions in real-time.
SHS JACKET BUZZ TWITTER TOWN HALL

Through response and feedback to the first Twitter Town Hall event, PPS realized that the important voices of current students and teachers were missing from the discussion. Through a series of meetings with Starkville High School journalism classes, PPS and SSD developed the idea for a second Twitter Town Hall to serve as an opportunity for students and teachers to voice their opinions in a vehicle that would also allow students to learn about communicating through social media. On Tuesday, December 17, 2013, SHS Jacket Buzz, the Starkville High School student newspaper, hosted and facilitated another hour-long Twitter Town Hall co-hosted by PPS and GSDP. Relying on student journalists to organize the live event, SSD and PPS assembled a panel of student leaders, teachers, administrators and Commission members to offer feedback and respond to questions in real-time. The student-led information-gathering event served to generate ideas and gauge opinions from those most directly affected by consolidation.
